We love exploring beers with new recipes and process changes. Sometimes we want to really make changes that are so far out of the box for us that we can't commit to a large production size batch. This is where our new Experimental beers come to play. We can change yeast, the way we add and when we add hops, the grains we use, and many other factors that play into how a beer is perceived in a much smaller scale than our typical batches. Available only in our taproom, we can gather feedback directly from you and learn what you like and what you don't like and use that in future batches. Who knows? Maybe one day this experiment will grow into a large, full batch.

We brewed this small batch of hazy DIPA with just 2 different grains - pilsner malt and flaked wheat. We love oats so much around here, we wanted to branch out and try a nice hazy without any for a change. Flaked wheat provides a nice silky mouthfeel, a lighter, more “fluffy” mouthfeel. Slightly adjusted mineral additions on our RO water to accentuate the mouthfeel. Dry hopped with Citra, Strata, Galaxy and whirlpooled with Nelson Sauvin.

For batch 1035, we stripped out everything we typically do in our standard hazies. The grain was simplified to four different grains/malts and we didn't heavily rely on oats or wheat, just a splash of oats for this one. For dry hop we dialed back the amount and let the yeast do more talking, which was also different than our house strain. The grain added a much darker color than our typical haze we do, offering a darker orange color, very fruit nectar-like versus our more sort of scrambled egg color we normally get. The yeast and hops interacted in a way that created a distinct juiciness - think honeydew melon - that is very pronounced and accentuates the more distinct citrusy hop character. We also changed the water profile to an overall softer water profile to balance out the slightly higher bitterness this beer has.
